Memoryhouse- Choir of Empty Rooms

Pretty nice ambient jams from an unsuspecting group. Apparently, this is a solo side project of Evan Abeele. The group claims that this is "not Memoryhouse" but we should convince them to head more in this direction right?! ;] ;]

for those fools who cannot open RARs yet

enjoy and best of luck with finals.

Cloud- Rocket (2011)

I finally finished my second album. A big two year chunk of my young life. I wrote this little passage about it when I was really bummed out. Without further ado:

When I first realized that I was in love with you I was surrounded by a North End Italian restaurant full of loud people. I was busing tables and I saw my face in a mothers kiss to her child. I had to pinch myself or concentrate on the patterns in the rug in order not to cry. I went into the basement and started to write my thoughts down so that I would never forget them- as if that were even possible. This is how a lot of the songs on “Rocket” were written. After Elephant Era my biggest fear was forcing meaning and feeling into my songs. Luckily, I had so many things going for me for this fear to be crazy. The album like most things is about growth and inspired by love. Every second of it documents a period of the most awe-struck confusion. And excitement! Excitement that you couldn’t possibly realize was detachable from your baby brain. Excitement for no pin pointable reason whatsoever. Just to look at you looking at me; our whole lives ahead of us. And I know that sometimes this feeling is completely foreign to us. When anxiety takes us instead and we’re held captive with our hands on our head. Rocket was written in both of these polar times. For me, every mention of an anxiety or “lovelow” is a tool to bring me back to the excitement that seems endlessly far away. To confront it and battle it. It’s like I’m always trying to stay on top of the mountain. I guess that falling is normal. Especially when it’s for things that are insanely ambitious. I’m still unsure whether we should shoot for these things that are out of reach and may only leave us unfulfilled. Things such as keeping close to a soul or being a ‘good person.’ Looking back on this album, one of these things is the desire that you keep somewhere inside you and on occasion beams out of your eyes right onto me.

Album art for "Rocket"

I realize that the promo video said that the release date was 9/11. that was a freudian accident. It was originally supposed to be 9/20. But I'm thinking it'll be a little sooner than that.... I'm working as fast as I can I promise you that!

Nana Grizol- Love It Love It *** (please listen!)

This folk punk band is great. I just gave the album it's first listen and I'm digging it so hard. I think that a sick cover of David Dondero's Less Than The Air is what really sold me. I really suggest you give it a listen. They remind me of; Plan-it-x, Titus Andronicus, and Neutral Milk. Dave, Jason, and Alex will love these guys. Thanks for the recommendation Kyrie.

*turns out this band has ex-members of Neutral Milk Hotel! My guess is on the horns because they reminded me of NMH. Who knew!

Tapestry

Casey's new music is amazing. His full length album "Tasting The Waters" is a peaceful reverberated dream with creative hooks and drippy guitar riffs. And the Split with Bare Bark (Joey Puleio) is a twinkle-daddy-esque jam duo with incredible drumming by Joey. Tapestry will be the first non-adam & naive Practice Room Records artist.

Seefeel - Quique (1993)

IDM- intelligent dance music. This trance-y shoegaze band hit the nail on the head with this album. Mesmeric, repetitive, and tubular. Enjoy it.

Dirty Three - Ocean Songs (1998)

If you like to listen to music as you read or sleep, you'll find it more helpful to listen to instrumental music. So if you are craving some good instrumental tunes, boy do I have a treat for you. I had listened to their album Horse Stories a couple of times and thought it was pretty good. Today I listened through it again and something clicked. The sounds of the brushes in sync with the violin became orgasmic. I listened through their album Ocean Songs twice through today. I suggest you give it a try. The song "Sea Above, Sky Below" is beautiful.

I hope you enjoy.

For Serious This Time - EP's

I just picked up their new cassette split but I don't know how to rip it to the computer. Any help? They're pressing vinyl so all you vinyl collectors better get ready! These guys are the hometown heroes of the surreal Northport music scene. Their music is great for those nice summer bike rides and they will most likely be playing at the Haircut Haus on the 24th or 25th. We all better go ! And if you fools don't know the words to their songs Fog Bank, Bobsun, or 48 Tonight... you'll regret being the only person not singing along. Enjoy foo's

Carissa's Wierd / S

two words I will NEVER be able to spell: weird & crowd.

This band is an awesome slow-folky sad group from mid 90's Seattle. Apparently their breakup left the city in despair. Ain't that a nice aesthetic? So S is just the solo project of one of the Carissa's Weird members, Jenn Ghetto. I guess she was the cooler of the two founding members because the other dude moved on to do Band of Horses.... and fuck them. Check out their songs "Ignorant Piece of Shit," and "So You Wanna Be Super Hero" From S, I've only really gotten into "5 Dollers," such a great track. hope you enjoy, keep in mind that they're definitely the type that grows on you.

MMOSS

This band was SO GOOD live. ASHLEY i think you'll love these guys. They're like a 60's psych rock group. I was listening to them on a sunny bike ride and it was a great combination. I suggest you to do the same.

Strawberry Switchblade

The way I found this band is pretty cool. I was at a A Sunny Day In Glasgow show when in between the songs the band had to tune, so one of the girls sang an acappellla version of Trees and Flowers. It was beautiful! Here are some of their albums.
